Today was another day full of sessions. Our group of 12 was split between several different practicum sites, and I was sent back to Sirirod Hospital to do a session with SPeak with the short term chemo patients.
Julia and I worked with SPeak on the Thai and Western songs that we would be doing with the clients. We reviewed the goal for the clients and talked about the things we should observe during the session. I felt very confident that this session was well planned and prepared for.
.... There were no short term chemo patients today.
So, instead we split a session with the group doing long term chemo. We improvised our repertoire for this new group and tried not to repeat any songs that had been sung before. The patients, though they were still, watched us calmly as we serenaded them. One patient even sat up to listen. Sometimes music can be a pain killer.
After we left the session we walked to the hospital's coffee shop and took our session notes. We also reconnected with the rest of our group and it was fun to swap stories about all our practicum experiences. I love all the things we are learning from this journey!
